DHAULAGIRI TREKKING

The Dhaulagiri massif is one of the tallest and biggest mountain systems in the world, forty kilometres long and encompasses fifteen 7,000 m plus peaks. The trek is an extended and strenuous trek, through high alpine pastures, high passes and serene, uninhabited valleys.

DHAULAGIRI TREKKING ITINERARY:

 

Day 1 Arrive Kathmandu

 

Day 2 Full Day sightseeing starting with be Swayambhunath, the Bouddhanth, Guheshwari, Durbar Square and Pashupatinath. Welcome Dinner and overnight Hotel.

 

Day 3 Fly to Pokhara. Overnight hotel.

 

Day 4 Drive to Beni (850m) 4 hrs.

The drive takes about 4 hours, after which we o through a police check post where your trekking permits will be examined.

 

Day 5 Trek to Babiachor (950 m) 5 hrs.

From Beni we head west along the north bank of the Myagdi Khola through several small villages. We then cross two bridges near the village of Simalchour, and head back to the north bank from where it continues to the village of Babichor.

 

Day 6 Trek to Dharapani (1,400m) 6 hrs.

The valley widens as we head out, with terraced hills on both sides of the river. We soon arrive at Ratorunga and continue to the village of Dharapani.

 

Day 7 Trek to Muri (1,850m) 5 hrs.

We cross the river and head north to Phedi after whcih we climb through many switch-backs until we arrive at the villages of Muri. We continue towards Sibang and Mattim and onto the large Magar village.

 

Day 8 Trek to Boghara (2080m) 6 hrs.

After climbing a ridge, we reach a pass from where you can see Mt. Ghustung South (6465 m). We then trek along the west bank of the Myagdi Khola, up several more switch backs, to Boghara (2080 m).

 

Day 9 Trek to Dobang (2,520m) 5 hrs.

The trail beyond Boghara descends through terraced fields and then up a high winding path to Lipshe where there is one single hut. The trail continues through a forest to Lapche Kharka and then climbs to the area at Dobang.

 

Day 10 Trek to Choriban Khola (3,110m) 6 hrs.

Today, the west face of Dhaulagiri I (8167m) will soon become visible through breaks in the trees. After passing through several forests we cut across a rocky area and cross a stream to Choriban Khola.

 

Day 11 Trek to Italian Base Camp (3,660m) 7 hrs.

We head along an ill defined trail to the Chhonbarban Glacier Ahead of us is Tukche Peak (6837m) and the right, the impressive north flank of Dhaulagiri I (8167m) After a short while you will reach Italian Base Camp (3660 m).

 

Day 12 Rest Day.

 

Day 13 Trek to Glacier Camp (4210m)  6 hrs.

We head off early while the weather is clear to glacier camp.

 

Day 14 Trek to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4740m)

Tukche Peak (6837 m.) becomes visible straight on; at the far end while the impressive north flank of Dhaulagiri I (8167 m.) dominates the skyline to your right. After a short while you will reach Dhaulagiri Base Camp (3660 m), which is also the site of your camp for the night. To the west are the peaks of Dhaulagiri II (7751m), Dhaulagiri III (7715 m) and Dhaulagiri V (7618 m). Camp Overnight.

 

Day 15 Rest Day.

 

Day 16 Trek to the French Pass (5,100 m)  Hidden Valley High Camp. (5,360m)  6 hrs.

We head up terraced hills, into a valley and gently on up the French Pass (5100m). We will soon be able to see Mukut Himal (6328 m.), Tashi Kang (6386 m.) and Sita Chuchura (6611m). We continue along the right edge of the Hidden valley and descend from Thapa Pass to make camp at about 5360m.

 

Day 17 Cross Dhampus Pass, and trek through Yak Kharka (3,680m)  6 hrs.

We descend to the Dhampus Pass and continue to Yak Kharka.

 

Day 18 Trek Marpha (2,667m) to Jomsom (2,710m)  3 hrs.

Descend to the village of Marpha and continue to north up the river valley to the town of Jomsom.

 

Day 19 Flight: Jomsom  Pokhara (35 min). Spend the rest of the day enjoying the attractions of Pokhara. Overnight at Hotel.

 

Day 20: Fly to Kathmandu. Arrive Kathmandu and free to explore at your leisure.

 

Day 21 Final Departure
