From bags to formations. Any guesses as to what the image alongside is?

Follow the back roads of Laos to Luang Prabang and soak up a rich diverse culture or head to the African plains and enjoy a safari in Kenya.

For something completely out of the ordinary, take the Siberian Rail Express for a tour across Russia, or soak up the sun at Masuwe Lodge, surrounded by natural bush land and wildlife at Vic Falls.

Walking the dangerous walk to school  is in the news, and our Q&A looks at Hiking Terms.

Our picture of the month is of a strange plan and our photo series looks at sunsets and silhouettes.

Last month's image was well received with several correct answers. Although we had comments like it being a tent bag, others a type of parachute device, the correct answer was that it is a Hyperbaric bag, also known as a PAC or Gamow Bag. It is used where climbers have severe altitude sickness to try to stabilise them. The patient is placed in the bag which is then inflated via a foot pump to a significant pressure above ambient atmospheric. This effects a physiological "descent."

However, correct answers go to Claire Keyser, Karen Miller, Ros Mabelis, Deidre Jones, Brenda Arbaton and Kerry Daniels. It seems the ladies held  the cards on this image.

In the News - the world's most dangerous walk to school.

The road winds from their village in one of the remotest parts of India.

During winter, this arduous and perilous journey — dependent on the river freezing solid — has traditionally been the only way to get children from the valley's high-altitude villages to boarding schools in the regional capital, Leh.

"Dangerous," Rigzin says, when asked what he remembers of the journey.

"So cold."

Everest Base Camp Trek: 17 September 2018

Question of the Month
Which of the Everest three passes is the hardest or are they all much the same?

Given that they are all at high altitude, all be tough going. However, the Kongma Lass is generally the toughest of the three. It is very steep and rocky but the views from the top are unsurpassed. Crossing the glacier can also be tricky in bad weather.

Each pass is very different from the others.

If you have a question you want answered, send it to us. We publish one per month.
