Last month's image
was well received with several correct answers. Although we had comments like it
being a tent bag, others a type of parachute device, the correct answer was that
it is a Hyperbaric bag, also known as a PAC or Gamow Bag. It is used where
climbers have severe altitude sickness to try to stabilise them. The patient is
placed in the bag which is then inflated via a foot pump to a significant pressure above ambient atmospheric. This effects a physiological "descent."
However, correct answers go
to Claire Keyser, Karen Miller, Ros Mabelis, Deidre Jones, Brenda Arbaton and
Kerry Daniels. It seems the ladies held the cards on this image.
